Founded in 2014, Movement Afoot has produced three full-length tap dance concerts: Ph(r)ase 1 (2016), Count Us In (2017), and Rhythm Studies (2018). The company has also performed at numerous community events and has offered summer workshop series, hosted classes with visiting artists, and conducted outreach performances and workshops with Columbus City Schools and the Schoenbaum Family Center. Our full performance list is here.
We’ve been featured on Good Day Columbus, Broad & High (WOSU), Mornings with Brian on Sunny 95.5, and in the Columbus Dispatch, Columbus Alive, and 614 Magazine. We have also received grants from the Greater Columbus Arts Council and Ohio Alliance for Arts Education. Check out our Press page for more!
Movement Afoot is directed by Lauren Squires, a lifelong tap dancer, performer, and educator. She started Movement Afoot because when she moved to Columbus in 2012, she couldn’t find anyone else performing tap! The company grew out of Lauren’s need to dance and create, her drive to expose more audiences to more diverse forms of tap, and her desire to have a community around tap dance. If you’re interested in performing with us, contact Lauren.
