Lauren Squires is the founder and director of Movement Afoot. She is a lifelong tap dancer, performer, and educator. Lauren grew up dancing in Springfield, MO. In college at American University, she was a founding member of Tappening (Washington, DC). While obtaining her PhD in Linguistics at University of Michigan, she performed with Sole Full of Rhythm (Ann Arbor, MI). She has performed many solo and collaborative works along the way. Lauren is a professor in the English department at Ohio State, where she is also the faculty advisor for Buckeyes on Tap. She lives in the University District with her partner and their child and cats.
Janet Schroeder (Assistant Director) is a percussive dance artist, scholar, and teacher, with a particular interest in tap dance, Appalachian clogging, and body percussion. She maintains her physical practice of these rhythmic dance forms throughout the U.S., creating and presenting choreography as well as taking and teaching classes. As a scholar, Janet is preparing for her second season as scholar-in-residence at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival where she delivers public lectures and moderates conversations among leading dance artists. From 2005-2010 Janet toured with music and dance company Rhythm in Shoes. She holds a BFA in musical theatre from Ohio Northern University, an MFA in dance from The College at Brockport, SUNY, and is currently a PhD candidate in dance studies and a Presidential Fellow at The Ohio State University. Janet has been performing with Movement Afoot since 2014.
Kara Braunreiter began dancing at the age of 4 at Schaumburg School of Dance in Illinois. She continued her education through high school and college at Eau Claire School of Dance in Wisconsin, before moving to Columbus for graduate school at The Ohio State University. She currently takes classes at Artisan Dance Studio, where she also teaches children’s and adult classes in a variety of styles, including ballet, tap, jazz, and helps coach the youth competition team. Recently, Kara has performed with the Artisan Ballet Company in Don Quixote, The Wizard of Oz, and Mary Poppins. When she isn’t dancing, Kara is working on her PhD in Molecular Genetics at The Ohio State University. She has been dancing with Movement Afoot since 2018.
Rachel Cooke received the majority of her dance training at Arlene Cassara Dance and Theater Center near Cleveland, Ohio. After moving to Columbus to attend The Ohio State University, she was fortunate to continue to foster her passion for tap dance as a member and leader of OSU’s Buckeyes On Tap. Rachel works as a Licensed Professional Counselor at Clintonville Counseling & Wellness, a therapy practice with a mission to support those who identify on the LGBTQ spectrum. In her free time, she enjoys being outdoors and petting cats.
Stephanie Gluck, born and raised in Worthington, Ohio, has been dancing since the age of four. She began her training at Columbus Youth Ballet and continued onto Dublin Dance Centre & Gymnastics where she fell in love with tap. Stephanie trained under Jenai Cutcher while studying at The Ohio State University where her passion for tap really took over. While she is not dancing, Stephanie works full time at The Ohio State University. In her free time, Stephanie enjoys playing the piano, playing board games with friends, and spending way too much time on Netflix. Stephanie joined Movement Afoot in 2017.
Holly Honroth is originally from Strongsville, Ohio and was first introduced to the world of tap at Dance Dimensions by Jen Naso over 20 years ago. Continuing to dance through college, Holly was a member of the Shakerettes at Miami University for four years. After a short hiatus from dance following graduation, Holly was able to rekindle her love of tap through adult tap classes at Artisan Dance Studio after her move to Columbus. Holly currently lives in Cleveland and works in brand management. Holly has been performing with Movement Afoot since 2015.
Jessica Kehn started her training at J.A.Z. Dance and More in Reynoldsburg, Oh and continued her studies at The Ohio State University where she received her BFA in English and Dance. She is the owner/director of Artisan Dance Studio in Clintonville, where she teaches various styles of dance from young children through adults. In her free time she enjoys cooking and learning how to play the piano. She has been dancing with Movement Afoot since 2018.
Janelle Maur grew up in Akron, Ohio, and received her dance training at the Christine Jones-Meneer School of Dance. Janelle moved to central Ohio to study music at Otterbein University, and after a six-year hiatus, returned to dancing in 2014 at Artisan Dance Studio. Janelle is the Communications Manager at Bridgeway Academy, a nonprofit education and therapy center for children with autism, and a tap instructor at BalletMet Academy. She resides in Clintonville with her husband, Ian, and their retired racing Greyhound, Andre. Janelle has been performing with Movement Afoot since 2015.
Sharon Ross grew up tap dancing at the JTM Studio of Performing Arts (now Amy’s Studio of Performing Arts) in Dallas, Texas. Most recently before coming to Columbus and joining Movement Afoot, Sharon studied tap with Gregg Geoffroy at the Berkeley Beat in Berkeley, California. During the school year, Sharon is a linguistics instructor and a STEP mentor at OSU. A lifelong summer camp enthusiast, Sharon spends her summers working in summer camp leadership. Sharon has been performing with Movement Afoot since 2015.
